Privacy policy
Effective 28 October 2026. Applies to the Say Treat app for iOS and Android and to this website.
The short version
Say Treat collects no personal data. It has no accounts, makes no network connections, contains no analytics, advertising or third-party tracking code, and never sends anything off your phone. The photos you take are saved to your own photo library and nowhere else.
Who we are
Say Treat is made by Jonathan Wise, an independent developer. Questions about this policy go to jonathan.robert.wise4@gmail.com.
What the app does with your camera and photos
Say Treat asks for two permissions, both explained on a screen inside the app before the system prompt appears.
- Camera. Used to show the live preview and to take the photo when you tap. The app does not record video and does not use the microphone.
- Photos (add only). Used to save each photo you take into your photo library. The app asks for "add only" access, which lets it add photos but not see, read or change anything already in your library. On Android 13 and later this access needs no prompt, so you will not see one. The small thumbnail of the photo you just took comes from the camera's temporary copy in the app's private storage, not from your library; tapping it opens your Photos app.
You can turn either permission off at any time in your phone's Settings. Without camera access the app cannot take photos, and without photo access it has nowhere to save them, so it will ask you to turn them back on.
What is stored on your phone
The app keeps a few settings in its own private storage on the device: which sound you picked, whether you last used the front or back camera, whether you have seen the permissions screen, and the location of the last photo it saved so it can show the thumbnail. None of this leaves the phone. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Photos are stored in your phone's photo library, under your control, like any other photo you take. The app also holds the camera's temporary copy of the most recent photo in its private storage so it can show the thumbnail; the operating system clears that copy over time, and deleting the app removes it. Nothing is kept beyond that.
What we do not do
- No accounts, sign-in or profiles.
- No network connections of any kind. The app works the same with the phone in flight mode.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software, and no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- No cookies or tracking on this website. The site is static pages with no scripts.
- No sharing or selling of data, because there is none.
If you installed Say Treat through TestFlight or a Google Play testing track, Apple or Google may send us crash reports and basic device information under their own privacy terms; Say Treat itself adds nothing to that. The same applies to crash reports the App Store and Google Play share with developers when you have allowed it in your phone's settings.
The Android version lists an internet permission in its technical manifest. This is added by the build tools; the app contains no code that uses it and never connects to anything.
Children
Say Treat is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Keeping and deleting data
There is no data on our side to keep or delete. To remove the app's settings, delete the app. To remove photos, delete them in your Photos app as you would any other photo. To withdraw a permission, use your phone's Settings.
Your rights
Privacy laws in your country may give you rights over personal data an organisation holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or erase. If you believe otherwise, write to jonathan.robert.wise4@gmail.com and we will answer.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes what it accesses or stores, this page will change first and the effective date above will be updated. The current version is always at https://saytreat.app/privacy.
