How Say Treat works
Tap the shutter once and your chosen sound starts playing on a loop. The whole viewfinder becomes the shutter: when your pet looks, tap anywhere on the picture to take the photo. The sound stops and the photo is saved to your photo library. If you do not tap within about six seconds the sound stops and nothing is taken; tap the shutter again to start over. Tapping the ring in the middle while the sound is playing cancels.
Questions
The sound plays even though my phone is on silent. Is that right?
Yes, on purpose. The sound is the whole point of the app, so it plays through the speaker even with the silent switch on or Do Not Disturb active, the way a video would. Use the volume buttons to set how loud it is; the app will warn you if the media volume is very low.
I'm wearing headphones and my pet didn't react.
The sound goes wherever your phone sends audio, so with wired or Bluetooth headphones connected it plays in your ears, not out loud. The app shows a short warning when this happens. Disconnect the headphones and try again.
What is the high-frequency chirp?
One of the sounds is a short high-pitched tone, around 17 kHz, that most adults can barely hear. Pets' hearing varies a lot, so it may or may not get your pet's attention; if it doesn't, pick one of the audible sounds.
My pet stopped reacting to the sound.
Pets get used to a sound. Try a different one from the sound picker; the app remembers the one you choose.
Where is the settings screen?
There isn't one. The only thing to choose is the sound, and that lives in the sound picker (tap the sound name on the camera screen). Everything else, like how long the sound plays, has one setting that works. The About section at the bottom of the sound picker has this page, the privacy policy, the sound credits and the version number.
Where are my photos?
In your phone's photo library, with your other photos. The small round thumbnail on the camera screen shows the last photo you took; tap it to open your Photos app. The app has no gallery of its own.
The camera or photo permission is off and the app won't start.
Say Treat needs both. Open your phone's Settings, find Say Treat and turn Camera and Photos on, then come back to the app.
Can I use the front camera?
Yes. Tap the flip button next to the shutter. The app remembers which camera you used.
